Ordu Mercantile Exchange Chairman Nejdet Gürsoy made the following statements after saying that the new season hazelnut prices should be announced in June:

One of the biggest mistakes made in hazelnut season is that the hazelnut prices or purchase politics are announced too late. This damages the hazelnut market in a way that manufacturers are affected most.

The most striking example of this is the price charts of hazelnuts in the past season. For example, in the  past season, if the 4 TL price was announced in June, I guess  the market would'nt decrease to 2-3 TL. Forasmuch as the free market wasn't expecting 4 TL price. Of course, the sales eventuated under this price.  Now, as I already said in the meetings of UFK advisory board,  if the government sets a price for hazelnuts, it should definitely be announced in June. Whatever the decided price is, it should be announced earlier, so that the hazelnut market will have some advantages. For example, producers will  make their costs  without entering the hazelnut garden. So, they can evaluate their expenditures like harvest, haymaker, e.t.c. In addition, that will bring some kind of a discipline to the speculative trades in the free market. People will have to evaluate this opportunity in the purchase and sale of a price that is announced 3 months earlier. The sale prices will be around this price axis. It will affect the free market prices positively, and that, I think, will prevent the abnormalities  and the gap between the TMO and the free market prices in last year. As a result, the announcement of the hazelnut prices should be made in June in terms of the partial stability and the better value of the hazelnut.
