Economic Structure of Ordu Print E-mail

General economic and social structure of Ordu province is located in an hazelnut production-dependent area. There are some serious fluctuations depending on the economic activities of hazelnut. In the province, net domestic product per person (KBGSYİH) is 1,375 dollars, and with a growth rate of -5.6, Ordu is at the fifty-eighth place in development rankings among all the provinces.

Agriculture

 AgricultureOrdu has an area of 656,300 hectares. This land area consists of 332,840 hectares of agricultural land, 184,652 hectares of forest-heath, 79,000 hectares of meadows and pastures, and 59,800 hectares of "Non-Agricultural Land".

Because of the fact that a big part of the land structure of our province is hilly and covered with forest, not have a rich structure in terms of agricultural potential. In this land structure hazelnut becomes the main soruce of livelihood. Therefore,  the fruit and vegetable farming and agriculture remains as the second plan.

Approximately 166,031 tons of hazelnut production is carried out by on average 110,000 hazelnut producers. 25-30% of hazelnut production of Turkey is done in our province.

Cereals take the first place in Turkey and inour province. Then, beans and tuberous plants come as second. About production, grain production comes first, and the industrial plants take the second place in Turkey. (Chamber of Industry and Commerce data)

Provincial livestock in the economy comes after agriculture. Livestock is done especially in the southern part of the province, where production is low.

Beekeeping, as a source for only domestic needs, has been modernized and become portable after 1960. According to the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture data, Ordu is the second city of Turkey in terms of the number of hives, and firstof Turkey in the total honey production and honey yield per hive.

Industry

 Together with the agriculture and livestock sector, Ordu has improved in industry and food sectors.

When we look at the industrial profile of the province, 30% of the hazelnut crashing, managing and the integrated plants comes first. After the hazelnut facilities, there is 20% flour and fodder plants, candy & lokum plants, milk and dairy businesses, liquid oil plants, fish and fish products companies, and with 12% stone and earth-based industrial facilities to follow.

Small Industrial Sites and Organized Industrial Zones are very important for the development of a healthy industry in the province.

Textile industry started to grow as a sector in recent times in our province. Lace business has a separate importance in Ordu.

The high potential of forests leads to the development of forest products.
